HamQuest is a freeware roguelike based on the rules for the boardgame HeroQuest. It (and all other games on PlayDeez.com) are completely and totally free. It is not strictly a "retro remake" of any game in particular, but rather an amalgamation of a number of different games that have an overall retro feel. Project Page: http://www.playdeez.com/HamQuest.htmlDirect Download: http://www.playdeez.com/gamesfordownload/HamQuestInstall.rarAt the moment, HQ is going through some updates, and I wanted to get some new eyes on it. I have just switched some of the rules, and so the balance of the game is going to be off and need tweaking. It is my hope to get feedback so that the appropriate tweaks can be made to re-balance. Enjoy. P.S. HamQuest requires .NET 2.0 (or later, naturally)

Dammit, killed by a red dragon. Until I met him I thought this game was pretty easy. He broke all my gear and I burned through 7 red potions before I was torn to pieces. Had 7 pieces of the MegaHam, too. Sniff. My biggest enemy was myself, as I turned out to be an expert at blundering into every single trap I found, which wasted a lot of lovely hams.
Nice roguelike! I like the simple loot all mechanic. It would be useful to be able to click on/look at squares to see what enemies were before having to fight them.

The dragon is the toughest monster to kill ATM. I've been working quite a bit on this, and some of the things I've been tweaking will make it seem a lot less easy. Thieves will steal your gold(and your megaham!). Ghouls will drain your experience points. Necromancers will unleash the hordes of the undead.

I thought I might have been lucky that the thief didn't steal anything from me, and that the summoner didn't summon.
It's really frustrating when you have a stack of 19 daggers but only 1 longsword that's about to break.
Also, I think green (items left to loot) should take preference over red (monsters) on the minimap. In my second game I had 13 MegaHams and the whole map was red so I had no idea which rooms to go back to for chests. (Darn teleport traps!) Or perhaps squares shouldn't turn red until you've entered them and seen the monsters?
Also, I won! Hooray! I just ran from the red dragon when I encountered it this time. Killed at least one of everything else. I also ran mostly all the time at the end, because I had such a huge stack of daggers and killing medium-level monsters was tedious.
But I did encounter one bug. This happened when I clicked on a longsword in a weapon shoppe (I hit continue and the game went along as usual):

I was going to say "I hope the game doesn't contain any viruses" as a kind of Swine Flu joke, but joking about viruses in software is not funny even if it's with the best intentions so I won't. It looks cool, shame I'm rubbish at Rogue type games.

I've also discovered that since adding monster respawning, the endgame is made more difficult by not knowing where treasures are. This was because the general practice of playing would be to clear out monsters, and since they never respawned, it wasn't a problem. I'll be fixing this. I'll be on the lookout for the Shoppe bug (I slapped that feature together, so I'm not too surprised that there are bugs in it)

Nice simple rougelike (rougelite?) this. The thieves are a pain, I cleared every room, but only had 1 megaham! I assume I've got to keep going back to the respawns trying to find them? Bit hard that and not much fun (once you've done the rooms the incentive to keep going is limited).
Also, the traps are really annoying. You can't just run about, even in an empty room. You have to press, check, press, check, rinse and repeat.

Did you open every chest? In the version I played the MegaHams were always in chests. Playing this got me jonesing for Angband, and I've recently redownloaded the latest Vanilla and am hooked again. DAMN YOU ernestpazera!!!!! Also, now I want to make my own roguelike...

Yes I got the megahams from chests, but I'd then get then stolen by theives. I think 3 was the max I ever had. I had been to every room (and cleared it), so I guess it must respawn chests (or just the megahams), but since the same thing would keep happening (theives stealing them) and once you've done the grind/fun bit of getting to every room the motivation to go back over the same rooms is low.

Ah, I see. In the version I played, the thieves never stole anything. Sounds like that feature has made the game a touch too annoying... ;P

Ok, so it looks like thieves stealing megahams is not a popular feature! It looks like I'll be removing that.
