At the risk of starting a new avatar fad.. (cough, cough!)

I've made a little program which asks you to enter an 8 letter username (A-Z and spaces only) and then creates a unique retro style avatar (complete with label) from that username. You can save the output as a 100 x 100 BMP avatar, or try a new word/name.

Please have fun and hope to see some new avatars soon! Wink

Ok, just uploaded a new version, 128 x 128 avatars, 10 characters text (including numbers), and a few tweaks to the sprite creation routine.

(same link as before..)

It's broken.

"SQUID YES" gives the same avatar as "BUMCHEEKS".

Surely that can't be right?

128 x 128 was a little too big for this forum (it got shrunk and looked a little blurred), so I've changed it to 112 x 112 and 9 characters.

It does indeed. Smiley

I've been thinking about putting a lot more work into this to make it make the facial features much clearer. That would get rid of some of the sprites which don't really look like anything recognisable.

That wouldn't just be for this little program, but as a general purpose tool.

There's a bug. Generate with a long name, and then generate with a shorter name. Some of the long name text will still show up in the image.

Ah yes, I must have forget to clear the text buffer. Well, that's not an urgent bug to fix yet!

Nice sprites BTW. Smiley
