Guys,

I thought I'd post my new one. The retro connection may be a bit tenuous though!

My excuse is, the gameplay's very pure - all you can do is run and jump! Errr -- that's retro... right? Ooh ooh also -- it's CEL SHADED -- cel shading's gotta be retro by now; RIGHT? In all seriousness, tell me if this isn't suitable for this site and I'll delete Smiley

~~~
THE NARDIAH WALL – thousand-section fortress in the fabric of space-time itself…
Last remaining relic of a long-dead aetheric empire, constructed at its farthest frontier to confound forgotten foes.
Now, although some primitive defences remain, astral-dreaming jumpers – the deft – gather to race along its ruined walkways.
FPJ?
First person jumper!
Features
- Online (massively) multiplayer, through the cunning use of ghosts; a fine way to neatly sidestep the usual requirement that you build up a community so players will be online at the same time Smiley
- 1001 beautiful levels (all loving handcrafted with top secret fractal compression applied Wink)
- Over 60% of the levels already have ghosts, thanks to my brave and intrepid trailblazing betajumpers! So while there's plenty of great racing to be had there's also lots of opportunity for even brand new players to set some records.
- Juicy cel-shaded goodness
- Pure-as-snow gameplay to appeal to hardcore or casual gamers
- Addictive as crack. My suggestion: Try both and report back! (Sigh. Not really, kids.)
- Multiple play modes. Obsess on a single section of wall to beat (and replace) that pesky ghost, or blaze your own path through the phasespace!
- Ghosts include the current record, previous records and your previous lives
- Deft Web News integrated with the Jumper's Lounge
-- From a Beta; some things are slightly different now!
Controls:
- Configurable, default is WASD or cursor keys, with space to jump
- Press Escape in-game to pause/restart level/switch play mode/hitch a ride with the record holder ghost, or return to the Jumper's Lounge
Get it!
Great game! I like it! Polished and all.... Except the jumps from the jumppads feel a tad bit 'uncontrollable', I just seem to fly in the same direction without the ability to 'steer'.
But: Nice game! Entertained me for one hour already, getting back to it quickly now Cheesy
Almost great, but the feel is off. I think it's the speed (too slow) and the floatiness of the jump. If it went up faster, slowed down and sped up more on the way down that would help. Also the lack of sound adds to the lack of feeling your actually running along the blocks.
Even an option to keep it the same, but faster might be enough (need to either speed the clock up as well, or have multiple scoreboards; normal, fast, turbo).
Still nice though and the feel is hardest thing to get right.
Needs an invert mouse. Currently without it i feel i need edges on blocks too. With an invert mouse added i might not need edges cos i'll be able to look around quicker and more accurately and get my bearings. I beat one of Tam Toucans times after a bazillion goes (level 755 Tam, beat ya by 3 seconds) Its hellish addictive but infuriatingly infuriating. Nice game, needs a tweak or two and i think Tams right, it does feel a teeny bit off but its really hard to tell why.
Being able to jump while its in level start mode seems odd and i really wish i didn't have to wait for all the blocks to rise up each time. Just go straight to a level overview and let me press a key to begin ? Anyway, nice game.
I liked this a pretty large amount. Could do with a sound to indicate you've landed, I can imagine then you'd actually get a feel for jumps and make them based on run-up and distance, whereas now it's currently a bunny-hop and find the best path race.
If a landing sound was added I could see myself sinking a ridiculous amount of time into this game.
