Thanks for testing everyone.  I've changed a lot in the graphics engine since then and it is now much more reliant on OpenGl.  I hope this doesn't bugger it for lots of people.  Hopefully not, as it's not like Im using shaders or huge textures.

Anyway quite a lot of work has been done to the game.  Most of it on the engine.  I've also spent time doing the boring parts first (which I don't normally do).  So I've pretty much completed most of the config screens, and now the player can has lots of options to play with.  I've also managed to add analogue joystick support which was missing in 3D Starstrike (I may go back and fix that soon).

Here is a video of where we are today.  It shows some of the config screen and then some of the game play screens about half way through.

Great progress, looks very impressive. Are youmaking your own cab for this? I ask because of the joystick, not your usual analogue controller.

Yes the plan is to build a cab to put in inside.  The controller I have at the moment is an original Atari Star Wars arcade yoke, which I hacked to work as a USB joystick.  Im hoping to build a Mame cab which will have all three Star Wars games, plus hopefully Minions versions (but I will need to talk nicely to him about changing in joystick buttons to read joystick hat positions).

This little project of mine seems to have grown a little bit bigger.  Now I have also started work on the cab which will hopefully house the game.  I've never made a cab before and have been thinking about it now for a couple of months.  I've gathered together as many pictures that I could and drew up some plans from there.  However I'm kinda making it up as I go along.  I sort of have an idea in my head how it should roughly be built, and so far so good.  Here's where I am today...

I just hope I can the rest will go as well Smiley  Has anyone else made a cab from scratch here?

I would have loved to have a cockpit, but there were a couple of small reasons why I went for the upright.

  • I don't have any room to put a full size cockpit, but I have a perfect spot in my office for an upright.
  • I don't think I have the skills to make a full on cockpit.

There was also one big reason why I didnt go for the cockpit.

  • My wife said no.

An news on if we might see a new demo. I'm well annoyed, i missed out on a mamed star wars upright on ebay that went for £410. I was going to pay upto £600 so i could run your front end and the three games on it. It ended early and i got out of bed 20 minutes too late Sad

Hello all,

Just a quick update.  Spent some of the week making some new models for the game.  I a couple more to make for the first stage, and then I will start adding the attack patterns.

Hello,

The game is not finished yet, and therefore there are no downloads yet.  Just a quick update for those interested.  My cab is finished and now has a nice place in my office :

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ft3b8DVqoso&amp;ap=%2526fmt%3D18&amp;rel=0" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/Ft3b8DVqoso&amp;ap=%2526fmt%3D18&amp;rel=0</a>

I've restarted work now on the code.  I'm in the middle of writing my own vector graphics engine in OpenGL as method I was using wasn't fast enough.  Im doing the boring bits at the moment which is making the editors to create 2D shapes / 3D shapes and fonts which the idea that I will release engine and tools for everyone to use.  For more "frequent" updates you can follow my blog over at www.urbaninteractive.wordpress.com and whenever I make a nice update I will post it here as well of course Smiley

The video is a bit dark but DAMN it looks great.

If there ever was a dedicated cab I wanted to build this would be it > it really looks authentic.

...and you wouldn't have to shell out £1000-£1500 for it...and then be completely paranoid it would break down.

We are patiently waiting for the Star Wars Episode 1-3 vector games, after Return of the Jedi gets released!

Imo, you seem to be the only person capable of doing such vector games with so much enjoyment and enthusiam. I wished you could make Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back as well, as soon as you have your own engine Wink

At least you proved to be a great coder with 3D Star Strike!

So enough work for you till you retire!

Best regards and best of luck finishing Return of the Jedi Wink
