Horace in Geistburg

Here's one oldie, even older than you are folks, in fact so old that Hitler banned it back in 1939 for promoting modernistic interior design! Oh Bugger that Hitler!

Ok, well..I was working on this for the past two weeks or so. There isn't much, just three levels cause my ass is on fire. Plan is to have about, oh 15-20 levels getting different stuff, pickups, bazooka, etc. as you go.
Good news is that all the ghost patterns, objectives, timers and crap are sorted out so it's just about..well, drawing and designing them levels Cheesy. If it ever gets finished, that is.

Ok, check yer menu or thy readme for controls. Keyboard is simpleton but there's untested support for 360 controller which might fail totally as I have no bloody thing to test it out. Any of you who might have that-check it out and let me know if it works or not because it would be thrilling if you were willing (no, not in that way).

Also, ideas, suggestions, nazi gold..send it this-a-way!
Enjoy!

Latest Version is 1.0

Ach, meine himmel ass.

LOL, that's a pretty great idea...and very funny. I like the style.
It also requires some pretty well timed jumps dammit. :-)

I found it real hard in some places as it's not easy to see when you're able to stand. A good example is when you try to get the star above Horace's head in the screenshot. That was more trial and error than I like.

Why thank you Sir, I shall store that onto a virtual machine for later entertainment purposes.

Why, that meddling Hitler! Such a bothersome fellow.

There is some bugs when I tested it:

In Level 1, He can sometimes fall in water even you cleary can see he got the platform over the first ghost and even hit the ghost even was not touched it (about 10-20 pixels far).

In Level 2, the top right switch is not needed because you can run througt the wall to the topleft.

In Level 3, you can sometime die by jumping of the platform, but not allways.

Which music tune do you using here?

Thanks for testing it out, better method for collision check is in place already to prevent such stuff. That wall will be sealed on level 2 as well this way so the top right switch is important there.

Jumping/falling from certain height will kill you so that's not a bug really. I'll check it out to see if it maybe doesn't trigger all the time for the same height.

Dunno about music, I got a bunch of random public domain stuff collected over the years, some unnamed or without tags, including this one which was just a bunch of numbers mp3 file.
Maybe Tom Jones? Cheesy

EDIT:
Just finished sealing the wall in level2, works!
Also, collision is now per pixel, you can come vevy, vevy close to ghosts, vevy.
Falling works as it should so not possible to die/survive in random by falling from the same height.
A few lil gfx added, phew.
Maybe if there's time to add another few levels (got the ideas but no time), I'll uploady another version before Oct ends. Gotta check that Monty first, stuck in Spain still. Tongue

Right, the latest version is uploaded, same link-same bat channel!
Version 5.5.666 is now available with 6 (you read it well folks, SIX!) levels. Bunch o stuff added that was missing (some collisions), new gfx, hopefully better collision for Horace in overall (touchy enemies too far is nono).
There, my October stuff sorted...sorta. The rest comes someday.
Enjoy!

Finally got time to try this now...Love the style as always. Like the nice simple level designs as well. Be really good to see what stuff you add.

Plays fine except for the collision detection. I managed to fall through the floor right at the start of level2 (didn't die and just had to wait until tie ran out). I kind of jumped, hit the switch and disappeard. Also jumping off the platform on level3 it seems you die a lot more if you let go of right, or press left.

Are you adding sounds. I think it really needs some sounds.

Cool, thanks for report. Gonna check that arse collision soon cause the bloody thing worked fine for me. I got the 'method Z'(tm) to resort to which I'm gonna use now that should fix collision problems, hnrrrr. Cheesy

Sounds, yes, probably, didn't have time yet but I guess - picking up, dying, doors.. stuff like that should be made, yesh yesh.

Where? Cheesy

I'm getting the 'plan z' implemented, hope this puts an end to misbehavior of collisions.
Also, just fired up sfxr, making some sound fx, always fun with this lil program. Cheesy

Now I need some magical app with a big button that says "Generate music", and I would be a happy programmer. Smiley

Try 'musagi' by the same author, the only program in which I've managed to actually compose something without knowing what the heck was I doing. Cheesy

I gues its more SFX its missing? The music really suit fine for game like this, but if I should do something music, which kind of style and inspiration should I use?

Can I not use ESC to quit the game and not the upnormal F10?

upnormal F10?

Trademarked! It's mine! Cheesy

Yes, ESC will be added at the end most likely, too many keys so far. I got soundfx, usual stuff-jump, fall, die, doors, pickup, etc.

For music, thanx for the offer, if you were willing then maybe something along the line of that tune? Accordion, violins...not necessarily the same but in that mood? Next levels will be happening deeper in the castle (dungeon) and then 'outside' on this long balcony stretch around the castle, so you can see the mountains in the background , villages and such, kinda maybe like that Dungeon Keeper view of the realm thing.
It's up to you really if you can come up with anything. Tongue
